Disadvantages: Long prologue
As a self confessed book worm i have got all 13 of Susan Lewis's novels. Her books are totally addictive and must be read. Susan Lewis' novels are steamy and suspense filled the whole way through, with plots that twist more than pasta and with endings always guarenteed to shock to the core. Taking Chances opens with a progloue, meaning that it is the 2nd installment, offering an insight into what it is we are about to be entertained by...with the last sentence being "The the gun was at he head again, and this time they killed her" it brings about a feeling of horror and excitement, wanting to know what happens next and how this person came to be in this position. This particular novel is about a journalist called Rachel Carmedi who is kidnapped by a Drug cartel, leaving her lover Tom filled with guilt vowing to avenge her death. As the scenes unravel, it turns out that Tom could have saved Rachel from death had he wanted to, but with the media in his tracks wanting to dramatise Rachel's death and turn it into a Hollywood special it isnt going to be easy. An adventure following the lives of Sandy Paull (a high flyer in London's filming industry), Michael Mcann and Ellen Shelby (the two journalists wanting their first Hollywood movie) across three continents Murder, Revenge, Lust and Love touch them all. T Sandy begins to get on my nerves a bit in this book, she is determind to get her man no matter what the cost is and at one point it gets totally out of hand and i feel quite sorry for Ellen who isnt a complete fool, although she cant quite see what is happening around her. This books has you enchanted from page one and i trust with with mind blowing character like this ones in this novel, you will not be putting it down. Tom agree's to take part in the movie, going to South Africa to track down Rachel's killers filled with remorse and wanting revenge...will Tom
end up the same way Rachel has, will he get found out or will he ger his revenge? Sandy still has feelings for Michael aims to remove Ellen from his life - but at what cost? Toms loyalties spiral out of control once his male pride get the better of him turning the movie into a terrifying path of death threats and destruction as he goes..... Throughout this entire novel i became involved with the whole character theme, i was drawn into the novel and had to know what happened next, because of the way Susan Lewis writes her novels there are always alternative endings available to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The sex scenes are so magical and romantic, and so real that if you were to read this book in a public place im sure you would blush at the details the author goes into, to describe every moment of the scene. For me this book was an escape from reality into a pure fantasy of danger, love, destruction, everything a girl wants in life within 400 pages...a handsome hunk to come to the rescue and an explosive ending, guarenteed to appeal to all. I first read a Susan Lewis novel when it appeared on the front of a magazine, im normally quite dubious when books are free, but i was glad i didnt read it, im now an avid fan of her books and have just finished reading her latest novel "Silent Truths" another must read.
