This is my first and probably my last book review on Dooyoo. I am normally beyond pathetic when it comes to explaining plots and characters. Also this is only the third book I have read since I was forced to read Shakespeare at school. So three weeks ago I decided I would let my hair down and read a few books. I have to say I have enjoyed it and I will now begin to buy books on a regular basis. My fiancé bought me this book for Valentines Day. I have just started to spend at least six hours a week on trains so it seemed the obvious solution. I chose talking to Addison mainly because the front cover looked appealing. I know people continue to say you ...  Read the complete review

"Talking to Addison" is Jenny Colgan's second "best seller"....but I was most disappointed with it. I read "Amanda's Wedding" on holiday this year. I got it free with "Cosmopolitan" magazine, but the paper back sat on my bookshelf for nearly a year before I read it. You see, I didn't think it was really me as I am not into tacky romantic stories! But I thought it might be just the thing to read on the beach, and how pleasantly suprised I was. In fact, when I saw that Cosmo were giving the next Colgan book away this August, I couldn't wait. Talking to Addison follows the trauma's of ...  Read the complete review

Don't blame Bridget Jones. How could she have known that keeping a journal would spawn a whole new genre? While chick-lit may be disparaged in the broadsheets, its popularity shows no signs of being on the wane. And at #5.99 for a quick fix of girly chat, sexy blokes and unlikely adventures, who can blame the thousands of women who've bought Talking to Addison and subsequently sent it to number eight in the bestsellers list? All the ingredients that make up the familiar chick-lit souffle are included in Jenny Colgan's latest novel: Holly, the slightly manic, quirky but loveable heroine (aka Bridget); Josh, the possibly gay, very sweet flatmate ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mediocre humour-cum-disaster (181 words)

This is a light-hearted story about a group of twentysomething friends, each trying to find their identity and their ideal partner. There is little of real substance in the storyline or the characters and at times the narrative is also rather irritating (for example it seems that in every other paragraph a character begins a sentence with the word "ehm"!) However, despite all this, I found that I was generally keen to read a bit more and a bit more of the book. Its humour is its main strength, although at times even this grates as the author pokes fun at certain characters in a totally non-pc fashion, making them appear ridiculous rather than ...  Read the complete review

I picked this up at a bookstore for £1 I thought it would be like Amanda's Wedding. It was but not as funny as I expected. It's all about Holly & everybody in her life. Holly is an (un)employed florist. She's in good company though when she moves in with a bunch of misfits like her. Josh who's as nice as pie but has some issues (doesn't everybody) Kate who's no-nonsense career woman who always falls for married men and then there's Addison, the cute lodger who never leaves his room and who already has an internet girlfriend, claudia who's a certified Trekkie fan like. Holly who's loveable and frankly quite a ...  Read the complete review

Fresh Style Of Literature, Realistic, Exciting New Outlook On Society During The Second World War Weak Narrative

Another great novel from Murakami. A good post-modern nightmarish detective mystery, and a pastiche of an older work Minute portions of the novel are a bit dwindling, and the ending seems a bit unfully curtailed

Very well written story, excellent plot, powerful message Perhaps a little too short...

Funny, easy to read, good book in its category. No in-depth character analysis or plot.

good plot style (for me)
