Advantages: easy to read
Disadvantages: can't think of any
David Beck and his wife have been together forever........ they met when they were small children and have never been apart, that is until Elizabeth is taken from him by a serial killer one night when they are visiting an old haunt. For eight years David tries to get on with his life, but he's not doing it too well, he just won't let her go. One night, working late, David gets and email........ the email points him to a website........ on the website is a webcam image........ the image is Elizabeth, eight years older now, standing on a busy street corner looking at him! "Tell No One" the email says. Is David cracking up? Was that really Elizabeth back from the dead? Is someone's idea of a joke? "Tell No One" - David can't even ask anyone for help and suddenly the FBI are on his case for the murder of his wife. I saw this book in Safeway a number of times but never bought it - it sat in my Amazon basket for months until I finally got round to buying it. Then it sat in the "too read" bundle for a few weeks. I finally got round to reading it though and quite enjoyed it. It is full of plot turns and the answers are not too obvious, I never saw the ending coming. Although it is certainly not as exciting as a lot of other thrillers I have read, I would still put it in the 4 out of 5 range (there is no 3.5 and the book is better than a 3 star!!). It is written as David Beck telling the story so everything is looking from his point of view and it is quite easy to relate to everything that is going on. It is a nice light read in two senses - the style or writing lets you read the book without having to concentrate too hard, and it's only 346 pages so doesn't break your wrist when reading in bed! I had never read any of Harlan Coben's stuff before, infact I assumed that this was his debut novel but I have since seen others of his in WH Smith and might just go
out and get some more. Tell No One Harlan Coben ISBN 0-75284-471-7 346 pages - paperback £5.99 publisher's price

- 22/06/02 I just found this formulaic, Politically Correct and the same as most other thrillers, it flowed, but it didn't grip me, or get me really thinking. Just shows how we are all different! |
