I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes Sookie Stackhouse

Yey! I asked for this book to be added because I wanted to recommend it. Tempest Rising is very reminiscent of the early Sookie Stackhouse novels. The heroine 'Jane True' lives in a small town in which she is very much the outsider and has a very hard time of it, having mysteriously lost her mum when she was young. Jane has a secret, she swims in dangerous, freezing cold waters without any difficulty, a fact she hides from all others as they think she is strange enough as it is. Early on in the novel Jane finds out that she is only half human and realises that there is a whole supernatural society hidden amongst us. Together with a hunky vampire she solves a spate of mysterious murders, becoming embroiled in the supernatural society in the process. The novel introduces fantastical creatures such as gnomes, nahuals, stone spirits and barghests so it's not just a standard vampire novel :-)

I so enjoyed this book, the story moves along at speed, the heroine is funny and easy to like, the characters are well written and interesting. The book itself is very funny and quite lighthearted. It reminds me of the first few Sookie Stackhouse novels before they started getting very dark. The creatures and supernatural world introduced in the book are different from the norm.

This is Nicole Peeler's first novel and I can't wait until the next one comes out in July. I highly recommended this book for those who like their urban fantasy funny but with more of a storyline than just girl meets vampire :-) If you like Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse novels I really think you will like this book.
