Barmy British Empire - Terry Deary
by thehonesttruth - written on 29/08/09 (Very useful, 40 readings)
Rating:
to charity shop and picked up 10 books in the series for a mere 29 pence each. The Horrible Histories series is published by scholastic, and is written by Terry Deary, who has authored some 200 books, and illustrated by Martin Brown . There are Horrible Science and Horrible Geography books also published by Scholastic, but it should be noticed that these series have different authors . The book I am focusing on in this review is The Barmy British Empire . On the cover, the Horrible Histories logo is printed in red in a cream box at the top, with the books title below it in another cream box. There is a cartoon style ilustration on the front of a red -jacketed soldier ...

Horrible Histories: The Awesome Egyptians - Terry Deary
by AmyAmy - written on 10/06/09 (Very useful, 27 readings)
Rating:
Terry Deary is a fantastic author. He is famous for his collection of books known as 'Horrible Histories'. These books cover a wide range of topics in History and are supposed to make learning fun for children. One of these is Awesome Egyptians. Plot: This particular book takes us back in time to the time when the Egyptians were around. It's one of the original books by Deary but despite being older it still displays fantastic work. The pictures inside are delightful and there are a lot of interesting facts that children can discover. Age range: Although the books are aimed at children in the 9-12 age bracket, I do think it is suitable for anybody older too. ...

Horrible Histories: The Awesome Egyptians - Terry Deary
by CaptainD - written on 23/03/07 (Very useful, 535 readings)
Rating:
is a good book for you. (For kids it’s the most effective type of education – educating without the student realising that’s what’s happening!!) The text is by Terry Deary with cartoons provided by Peter Hepplewhite. Deary has written all the books in the “Horrible Histories” series, but several different illustrators have been used. Hepplewhite’s style is fairly typical of all of them, being of a style that is rather like the political satire sketches found in many newspapers. Not exactly visually amazing, but certainly appropriate for this book and often quite funny. “The Awesome Egyptians” is available for £3.99 new or from a penny on the Marketplace, and is ...
