Barmy British Empire - Terry Deary
by AmyAmy - written on 13/06/09 (Very useful, 11 readings)
Rating:
There are a few authors which take me back to my childhood. Alongside Jacqueline Wilson, Nick Inkpen and Roger Hargrieves, theres Terry Deary. He writes a series of childrens books called Horrible Histories, and one of these is Barmy British Empire. Cover: You should never judge a book by its cover, but I must admit, I do do it! The cover of this particular book is attractive. It has a lot of bright colours with a dashing blue sky as the main colour. There is a statue aside a guard, and people in the distance coming towards them. it is very exciting indeed! Plot: The book, naturally, is all about the British Empire and how people lived their lives under the British ...

Awful Egyptians - Terry Deary
by AmyAmy - written on 13/06/09 (Very useful, 6 readings)
Rating:
Terry Deary is a fantastic author. He is famous for his collection of books known as 'Horrible Histories'. These books cover a wide range of topics in History and are supposed to make learning fun for children. One of these is Awful Egyptians. Plot: This particular book takes us back in time to the time when the Egyptians were around. It's one of the original books by Deary but despite being older it still displays fantastic work. The pictures inside are delightful and there are a lot of interesting facts that children can discover. It is not too dissimilar from the Awesome Egyptians book which I think is quite a shame, since some of the information is repeated. Though it is ...

Villainous Victorians - Terry Deary
by AmyAmy - written on 13/06/09 (Very useful, 8 readings)
Rating:
One of my childhood favourite authors is none other than Terry Deary. He is famous for his book series known as Horrible Histories. In this collection there are some great reads, one of which is the Villainous Victorians. Cover: You should never judge a book by the cover, so they say, but I am terrible - I always do it! And I must say, the cover of this particular book is quite strange. There is a picture of a wealthy victorian man dressed smartly, alongside a scruffy little kid obvious of the lower class. The contrast is interesting and definitely makes you want to learn more and read on... Plot: Naturally, the book is all about the Victorians and the lives lead during ...
