Those of you who have read a few of my recent reviews will notice that I have been working through many of the novelty stocking-filler type items which inevitably appear at this time of year. Books especially are prone to the Christmas cash-in on the part of sellers, and shops like Waterstones and WH Smith always have a prominent shelf full of these often rubbish and cheaply made items. This is the time of year when all of the tacky presents appear in the shops that the recipient will feign great appreciation for on Xmas morning and send to the charity shop in the new year. As well as tacky toys and gadgets the bookshelves are filled with all the latest z list celebrity biographies and other rubbish books that no sane person would surely buy for themselves.
