... cover, which features a cute koala bear with a nose that is 'too rough' and made out of a rubbery substance which just invites children and adults alike to touch it. The book continues along the same lines with different pictures of lions featured over the next eight pages. None of them are 'my bear' because their paws are too soft, body too fuzzy, tongue too scratchy, claws too shiny! Each picture uses a different touchable fabric or material to illustrate the point. Premium Review That's Not My Bear - Fiona Watt: Grin and bear it! (620 words)
by - written on 28/09/09 (Very useful, 77 readings)
Rating:

My kids have more than enough books at home but there was a sale of old books at the library the other week and I couldn't resist rehoming some poor unwanted books at just 10p each. Amongst my haul was 'That's Not My Bear', part of the classic Usborne series of board books for very young children. For anybody that hasn't come across one of these lovely little books before, each book features a certain animal or item with a particular characteristic made out of fabric or some other tactile substance. All of the books are written by Fiona Watt and illustrated by Rachel Wells with bright clear images of the items in question. The series includes a fast range ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A disappointing book from a great series (454 words)

That's not my bear is written by Fiona Watt, and is part of the popular That's Not My range. I recently reviewed another book in this series which was my favourite, however I found this one a little disappointing. The aim of these books is to involve your child in the storytelling and encouraging interaction. My children love these books as they are touchy-feely books and it helps them to learn not only about animals, but to discover new textures and information. The cover is a nice shade of purple and features a white polar bear on the front cover which has a rough nose. Inside the book are a further five bears which each feature different ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review My Bear has fluff for ears (401 words)

If you cannot read it really can hold you back and you miss out on so much in life, so therefore it is lovely to get children interested in books at a very early age and the earlier the better. That's not my bear is just the book to buy for a very young child to look at and get used to seeing words and a bit older to help read. This book is called a touchy-feely book You dont even have to open the book to see why as on the cover there is a picture of a kaola bear and the nose is cut out and replaced by black hard material that is probably plastic but when you put your fingers over it it is hard and tough. Under it is written its nose is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review That's Not My Bear - Fiona Watt: disappointing example of popular series (536 words)
by - written on 19/11/08 (Very useful, 179 readings)
Rating:

I met my husand through internet dating and his slogan was "please look after this bear" so he has long been bear and I have been bearess, so when Bryn came along it made sense that he is little bear. So this book looked ideal when I wanted to get a book for him when shopping from Amazon. The "That's not my.." is a series of books all with a familiar format and also contains many other books including animals (horse, dog), machinery (tractor, train) and fantasy (fairy, dragon). CONTENT The book contains repetition which an older child can join in with of "that's not my bear" on every double page as well as the ...  Read the complete review
