... these are not his/her fairies. Surprise surprise, the fairy that is your child's has a white complexion. Why couldn't your child's fairy be a fairy of colour? We also have the "That's not my angel" which is a Christmas version. This too has angels who have dark skin at the start of the book and these of course are not your child's angel. Your child's angel is blonde with rosy red cheeks. Should we be concerned that we are teaching our children with this book that they cannot accept and relate to pe...more

Premium Review That's Not My Fairy - Fiona Watt: Our Toddler's Favourite Book (464 words)
by - written on 02/09/07 (Useful, 139 readings)
Rating:

“That’s Not My Fairy” is the perfect book for 1-3 year olds as it is very simple, easy to read, short and has interesting images. The best part of this touchy-feely series is the textured parts on the pages, which toddlers can touch while a parent reads the story. For example, on the front cover is a picture of a fairy with a shiny fabric textured dress for the toddlers to touch and it reads “That’s not my fairy…her dress is too shiny.” The other textures in the book are fluffy, bumpy, smooth, frizzy and sparkly. What also makes the pictures special is the use of silver and holographic printed foils (like a silver “ink”) that are seamlessly on the page and ...  Read the complete review

This is another one of the books in the "that's not my" set. The books are aimed at the younger children aged between 9 months and 5 years old. This book though is a must from anyone with a little girl that loves fairies and pink. The book is bright pink with shinny starts all over the front of the book. The book follows the same format as all the books in this range. Each page has the same start to the story "that's not my fairy....". Then it comes up with reasons why it's not the right fairy. The example on the front page is " that's not my fairy... her dress is too shiny". The colourful pictures on the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review That's Not My Fairy - Fiona Watt: That's not my fairy... (259 words)

It was my daughter who spotted this book on the shelf in the bookshop and I think it was the bright pink cover with little sparklers all over it which attracted her attention. My daughter absolutely loves this little book. She loves listening to the story as we read through the book as it is very simple and easy for her to follow and repetitive - and we all know how much toddlers love repetition! Like many toddler books, there isn't much of a story to the book. It simply reads on each page 'That's not my fairy....' and then a reason why (for example 'her wings are too fluffy'. But the difference with this series of books which is ...  Read the complete review

My my youngest child was born, my brother bought this book for my older daughter. She was nearly 3 at the time and was feeling a little left out with her sister getting all the presents. So when her Uncle turned up with a gift for her, he was new her best friend. She took it straight from him and eagerly unwrapped it. I was waiting with anticipation as my brother usually buy them most silly gifts like snakes that jump out of tubes or farting putty (that sticks to the carpet forever). Obviously he doesnt have any children yet but wait till he does and it wil be pay back time. Anyway inside was this beautiful pink book called 'That's not my fairy' ...  Read the complete review

I am amazed how this book has captured my daughters attention. She is 8 months old and most books just want to go straight in her mouth - but she actually wants to sit and read this one! It starts on the front cover with "That's not my fairy...her dress is too shiny" and the dress of the fairy is slightly padded in a shiny material. The dress gets touched and studied before she grabs the cover to open the book! To find "That's not my fairy...her wings are too fluffy" with lovely pink fluffy wings that get pawed over! Then with a little bit of help from Mummy she turns the page to find "That's not my fairy...her slippers are too ...  Read the complete review
