Advantages: bright- colourful - textured areas - basic text

Disadvantages: none

My son has been tractor mad since he was very young. We have many books about tractors ranging from baby board books to educational books for older children. One of the favourite tractor books from both my sons has been 'That's not my tractor'.

I think I bought the tractor book when my son was about a year old to try and encourage an interest in books. At that time my son loved any type of book that had textured areas or flaps to lift. All my children have gone through this stage and I am amazed at the amount of books available.

That's not my tractor is a board book with a picture of a tractor over each double page. Each tractor has a textured area on it somewhere and some are smooth and other are shiny and so on. The pictures are very basic but brightly coloured. The text on each page is also basic but it is repetitive which is fantastic for children as they seem to love it. On each page there are the words 'That's not my tractor' followed by a reason such as 'its seat is too scratchy' or 'it's tyres are too squashy'. Finally on the last page the text is slightly different and says 'That's my tractor.....' and gives a reason why it's your tractor.

I didn't notice the change in text on the last page for ages and thought the book was a little silly but my children loved it so I read it every day. It wasn't until I heard my husband reading the book that I realised my mistake and saw the point of the story. I blame the stress of a day with three children under four!

Our copy of this book is looking very battered now but it is still a favourite. My youngest son is just starting to talk and loves the story, he is also mad about tractors and loves to feel each page. My eldest child is now five and learning to read and she enjoys reading the book to her youngest brother.
There is a whole range of these books available including 'That's not my train, aeroplane, fairy, mermaid and teddy.

These books are currently available at www.amazon.co.uk for £3.49

I would recommend these books to anyone with young children. They are bright and colourful and aimed specifically at a young child's urge to touch and taste everything.

Summary: A great book to read with babies and toddlers
