I've been working my way through these books today, and it's been nice to revisit them. The 'That's not my teddy' book takes the reader through 5 teddies, all of which are not the narrators. Each one has a defining characteristic that identifies it as not being his or hers, e.g. it's pawas are too wooly, and these characteristics are touchable. They may be fluffy, or made of corrugated cardboard etc. It's a sensory book, and one kids love to play with. Some of these books are a bit girly for my boys, and the teddy one is touch and go. Teddies are fine for boys, but this one is purple covered, which is a tad feminine methinks. Anyway, ... Read the complete review

That's Not My Teddy is one of the books in the much loved Touchy-Feely range written by Fiona Watt. The books are aimed at 1-3 year olds and are designed to improve the touch and sight in relations to specific words by giving a dfferent textured feel to a part of each drawing. The front of the book has a picture of a teddy, and the texture variation on this picture is that he has woolly hands. The writing above the picture says, 'That's not my teddy....', and then under the picture: 'its paws are too woolly.' The idea is that the adult reads it to the infant, who can then hear the word woolly, and feel the woolly paws, thus learning what woolly is, and also ... Read the complete review

There is a mountain of children's books on the market nowadays. The trick is knowing where to start. My suggestion is to go for what Jnr him/herself likes. May sound daft but if you let your toddler run riot in a bookshop, you can be sure that they will come back with a pile of books they "NEED". On a recent trip to the Early Learning Centre, we did just that. My son came back with a pile of books and this little gem sat on top. -----What is it?----- A chunky cardbord book with four thick pages. "Oh no. This is going to be a waste of time and money!" I hear you cry. But read on. Written by Fiona Watt, illustrated by Rachel ... Read the complete review

My baby son is now 14 months old and I was looking for some things for him for Christmas, he has some fabric and bath books but had no real readable books of his own. I was in Early Learning Centre and spied their books were on a 3 for 2 offer so I thought I would have a look, it was then I saw the "That's not my....."series, I had seen reviews of these before so thought I would check them out. I purchased 3 books in the series, the cover price is £5.99, a bit too expensive but they were on 3 for 2 so I bought 3. I bought "That's not my teddy", "That's not my monkey" and "That's not my monster", I am reviewing the ... Read the complete review

I hear, from a reliable source, that the best books for babies and toddlers are often the simplest. Well, when I say ‘hear’, I’m embellishing slightly; she can’t actually speak yet, at least not coherently. But the old adage ‘actions speak louder than words’ is certainly true in my daughter’s case. “That’s Not My Teddy” is an Usborne Touchy-Feely book, one of a range of board books for very young children, written by Fiona Watt. It’s the best of all possible shapes: a perfect square. Squares are better than circles, triangles, hexagons and rhombuses for obvious reasons, and more aesthetically ... Read the complete review
