Advantages: interactive
Disadvantages: expensive
I've been working my way through these books today, and it's been nice to revisit them.
The 'That's not my teddy' book takes the reader through 5 teddies, all of which are not the narrators. Each one has a defining characteristic that identifies it as not being his or hers, e.g. it's pawas are too wooly, and these characteristics are touchable. They may be fluffy, or made of corrugated cardboard etc. It's a sensory book, and one kids love to play with.
Some of these books are a bit girly for my boys, and the teddy one is touch and go. Teddies are fine for boys, but this one is purple covered, which is a tad feminine methinks. Anyway, nevermind!
The language is simple and repetitive, and a good tool for helping toddlers learn their speaking and reading.
At £5.99 a book they're not cheap, and considering there are only 10 pages you may think that's too steep, but bear in mind (no pun intended) that each page is made of thick card, and has a touchable bit, so it's more to do with interacting than reading.
Each page is full colour, and the teddy pics have a nice childish charm to them. The illustrations are simple and basic, but that will appeal to little ones, and keeps it nice and babyish.
If you like it, there are a whole range out there of these books, such as that's not my pirate and monster.
All in all, a nice book in a fun range that encourages hands on action.
