The Adventures of Bert - Allan Ahlberg ... in a slapstick, almost farcical way. The reader is made to feel part of the story when he/she is told to turn the page quietly so as not to wake Bert's baby, and is blamed when the baby starts to cry. Bert rescues a barking cardboard box from the river, is chased down the street by a giant sausage - and much more.

Rating:

This book has been a firm favourite in our household. It is beautifully written and illustrated, and has a great story. It's divided into nice tidy little chapters, and is suitable for kids from about the age of one. It's genuinely funny, and after reading it for the gajillionth time, you still don't feel like screaming, throwing it to the floor and stomping up and down on it (which is an achievement!). This is the adventures of Bert. He has a wife, a baby, and a cat. (now turn the page quietly, don't wake the baby ... oh! no! you woke the baby!)
