This decade has seen a whole host of excellent comic book writing that has taken well loved characters and expanded their histories, creating new stories that are exquisitely balanced. None moreso than J Michael Straczynski, who came into the role of scripting The Amazing Spider-Man when it was in danger of losing its fanbase through some uncomfortable storytelling. What Strac did was strip the superhero down to his roots, and re-explore elements, incorporating some past villains, some new ones, and developing his personal life and those closest to him.
