I found this book in one of my local book stores for around £9 and seeing as though one of my good male friends had just become a Daddy I thought - as a joke I would get him this book, just to maybe help him along in some way although i thought the book wasn't too serious. well, i had to have a little nosey about the book before i gave it to him and i have to admit i was pleasantly surprised. I bought this as a bit of a joke present for my brother when his partner was expecting, but actually it turned out to be a really good investment. After the birth, my brother said that out of the all baby books they'd got, The Baby Owner's Manual was the only one they were actually using and they wouldn't leave home without it (luckily it's small enough to fit into most handbags). The writing style is in that of a car maintenance manual so it's quite witty and tongue-in-cheek, but if that style's not for you but you can still get past all of that then the information provided is actually really helpful and practical. The Baby Owner's Manual is a fun and informative book for new parents. It is written in a really funny and simplistic way. I think in particular this would appeal to men, as it makes light of otherwise complicated issues, such as baby poo! As the name suggests, it is written as though it is an operating manual for a piece of technology. When it discusses illnesses, they are made to sound like computer viruses. When it lists the various things that will upset you with your newborn - such as the extensive crying, it talks about them as though they are flaws in an otherwise perfect hardware model.
