Alan Moore reveals in his introduction to the second Book of ‘The Ballad of Halo Jones’ that the general response of ‘2000AD’ readers to the first serialised story was lukewarm at best, and the sequel had none of the inevitability of anything Moore churns out today (to a consistently high standard, admittedly).
