Weird little book this. It's a Michael Rosen title, but one he did as Children's Laurette and I can't help but think he did it quickly to make cash off his title and didn't put much effort into it. It tells the story of a bear who lives in a cave in the seaside. The bear goes into the city, then goes back home and that's it. The whole thing has an annoying repetition about it; 'There once was a bear in a cave, a bear in a cave? A bear in a cave'. This is the same three part repetition all the way through and it's just annoying. the story is basic and nothing clever - just describes what a city is like. The only good thing is ... This book is written by Michael Rosen who also wrote the successful children's book, 'We're going on a bear hunt' which is one of my all time favourite books. As you can imagine, I was delighted when I saw this one at our local library and couldn't wait to read it but I have to say, I was dissapointed. I am assuming that this story is based on the bear that we meet in the story mentioned above although he isn't illustrated in the same way. The bearget lonely and decides to take a walk by the sea where he hears a noise.
