I have bought, been given and been lent lots of pregnancy books over the past few months because it is my first time and so I'm scared and desperate to know as much as I can. Most have been informative to some extent and when you know as little as me, every little does help! The Best Friends Guide to Pregnancy was my bath-time reading for a few weeks in my second trimester. I found it extremely easy to dip into and informative without being patronising. I would recommend it to all first-time mums-to-be and I would think equally useful as a reference book for those who have been there before. It contains lots and lots of sub-headings and so it is useful to ... Read the complete review

The Best Friends Guide to Pregnancy by Vikki Iovine Being at the final stages of pregnancy now (oh my god cant believe I am going to have a baby in less than six weeks!) I finally managed to get through to the end of this totally brilliant and amusing book. At the first stage of pregnancy I was trying to read every bit of literature I could get my hands on and finding out I was pregnant a lot of my Christmas presents ended up being pregnancy and child related, thanks friends and family just what I need! But one of my best friends bought me this particular book, which I am totally appreciative of as I found it laugh out loud ... Read the complete review

This book was a fabulous support for me during my pregnancy - it is just so funny and more honest than most pregancy books. Due to this wonderful book, I sailed through, relatively stress free. Immediately after purchasing it I read it through, and then 'dipped in' according to my mood or latest anxiety. It made good old 'Miriam' look as dull as ditchwater and far too rigid. I enjoyed it so much that it eventually fell to bits, so sadly I couldn't pass it on to anyone. However, I've recommended it to every pregnant woman I have had contact with. It also comes on CD Rom, but I can't comment as I haven't seen it. ... Read the complete review

This book is american based, so there are differences in their teminology but nevertheless it is a must read whether it's your first pregnancy or tenth ! It had me in absolute tears at times with it's stories about pregnancy and it's simple honesty. The author has taken much trouble to collate different experiences and writes in a very informal way (even using some rude words !). It was refreshing to read a book about pregnancy which did not try to bamboozle the reader with all of those technical terms or make you feel as though you simply glow and grow with no pain and have a lovely time. Anyone who'se been through a full nine ... Read the complete review

I bought the best friends guide to surviving the first year when my son was about 3 months old. I couldn't put it down, or stop laughing. It is really excellent, it's witty and has a laugh about all those strange things that happen during labour, the birth and of course the first year of motherhood. It takes a sideways look at it all - it's full of jokes and is very informative, but without being patronising or full of medical jargon. It tells you everything like it really is and doesn't spare you any of the things that they omit to put in the usual pregnancy books - this book contains ALL the things that no-one usually tells you and that you wish they ...
