The Casual Vacancy - J. K. Rowling - Some important insight into social issues Depressing and repetitive and at times simply dull
The Whole World - Emily Winslow - Cambridge setting, characters I cared about despite their silliness Preposterous plotting, too many secrets competing, reliance on coincidences
Grandmother's Footsteps - Charlotte Moore - Story of mother-daughter relationships, strong female characters who stay true to themselves Quite slow paced, took me a while to get into it

Inventive and who doesn't love a book with a green heroine?
I don't like books in which talking goats get murdered. It's not big and it's not clever.
