You can tell that this book is aimed at older children as the stories are fairly long and the illustrations are quite detailed and not in specifically primary colours. Because I read this to my baby, I use it as a bedtime story (when he is in his cot) as it is not a stimulating book for him to look at. At the moment we use it as a nice soothing story book...more |

This is a beautiful picture and story book. It is aimed at children, but I bought it for my baby when he was a newborn because when I read to him (since he does not understand anyway) I like to read a nice story with a bit of depth (as far as any children's book goes anyway), so I did not want 'baby' books with just a word or two on each page. I chose this book and others from Shirley Hughes' 'Alfie' collection because I used to love her books when I was a child and I wanted to share something from my childhood with my son.
