At the age of 12, I was keenly horse mad and also loved adventure stories, whether they be kids solving mysteries, or Cherry Ames going on some exotic nursing assignment, or an outing in the Star Wars universe. Imagine my great excitement when I discovered this lovely little book sitting at my place at the table one afternoon, after my parents returned from a shopping trip one day while I was at school. The Black Stallion is more than a story about a boy and his horse. It's fraught with danger, excitement , and peril, making for a rollicking good read for any young person.
