Huyler obviously fancies himself as a poet and his prose is written in a very self consciously poetic manner. Now I like poetry and I appreciate beautiful writing, but this is neither. The Blood of Strangers is a series of very short snippets of ER life, written by a young man who progresses from medical student to doctor over the course of the book. The book is a very slim paperback, running to just 182 pages, some of which are blank or only half covered and the rest of which are covered with large, wide spaced type. As you may have sensed, you won't be getting your money's worth. Each 'story', taken directly from the doctor's personal experiences with patients, is just a few pages long.
