Dolly Bantry of Gossington Hall is enjoying a pleasant dream one morning when her sleep is shattered by a servant's shocking announcement that a body has been found in the library. Bemusement and scepticism on both her part and that of her husband, Colonel Arthur Bantry, quickly turn to realisation that there is indeed a corpse in their house and the police are duly informed.
