As a child we had a New Year tradition whereby on New Years Day (or Ne'er Day as we referred to it) we went to my grandma and grandpa's for dinner. Dinner was really Christmas dinner in all but name - except for the fact we always had silverside instead of turkey. There were crackers, mince pies and my grandma's own Christmas cake, which was the only Christmas cake I have ever really enjoyed. After dinner my parents would chat with my grandparents whilst us kids would invariably be kept amused with my grandpa's old "Oor Wullie" and "The Broons" annuals that my mother had given him for Christmas in the 1950s. ...  Read the complete review
