I bought this book, The Christmas Story, about eight years ago when my eldest granddaughter was old enough to grasp the concept of the religious significance of Christmas. My granddaughters' are spoiled at Christmas, and rightly so, but I think it is important that they realise that Christmas is not just about eating turkey and unwrapping presents. The Christmas Story, written by Heather Amery and published by Usborne Books, is the best book I have ever seen for giving children their first insight into the birth of Christ as it tells the story in such a loveable and interesting way. `The Christmas Story With Christmas fast looming, I am digging out all my versions of the Christmas story to read to a group of young children. I like books which tell the story in a simple but informative way and which have interesting pictures and not too much confusing text. This book is one of those which fits the bill perfectly, and having used Usborne Bible tales on numerous occasions, it will be making another appearance. The story is written in such a way that there is a line of very simple text at the top of each page, and underneath each picture is a more detailed explanation of what is happening in the picture.
