The Stranger House - Reginald Hill
by sunmeilan - written on 02/06/06 (Very useful, 60 readings)
Rating:
Introduction I’m a big fan of Reginald Hill’s Dalziel and Pascoe novels, but haven’t really read any of his work outside of this, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect when I picked up this book. However, I have read reasonable reviews, so hoped that it wouldn’t be too bad. What I found was a very original, if slightly odd, novel that kept me intrigued from the first to the last page. It has echoes of some of the weirder Dalziel and Pascoe novels, yet is still quite far removed from them. Perhaps a better comparison is with some of Barbara Vine’s novels, such as The Blood Doctor. The story Two strangers, Sam Flood, a young Australian girl and Miguel Madero, an ex Catholic ...

Child's Play - Reginald Hill
by leviathan - written on 17/10/00 (Very useful, 30 readings)
Rating:
joy of reading Reginald Hill.. Childs Play is just one in the series of Dalziel and Pascoe novels..And as with all of this authors work.It has sufficent twists and turns to keep the crime lover guessing.. But the real strength of this author is in his characters, from the seemingly coarse, crude Dalziel ( though surprisingly ...

An Advancement of Learning - Reginald Hill
by sunmeilan - written on 25/01/06 (Very useful, 103 readings)
Rating:
is one of the strengths of the series. In this book, they are still getting to know each other, which makes for some amusing happenings. The author Reginald Hill, most famous for Dalziel and Pascoe, has also written another series starring a West Indian private investigator called Joe Sixsmith, as well as several non-series books. Before becoming a writer, he was a teacher at secondary school and college. The plot During the movement of a statue from one location to another at a college, a body is discovered buried underneath. The hair colour seems to match that of the former head of the college, who was believed to have died in a coach crash overseas several years ...
