This book was recommended to me and I obtained the book through the ReadItSwapIt site but probably wouldn’t have bothered had I had to pay for it. The book opened with Joseph, Harriet (his wife) and Lillian (his Mother) Blackstone’s arrival in New Zealand having come out to make a new life. Joseph, a man who had never felt ‘good enough’ was escaping his past, both his mundane existence at home and some sort of scandal, to which we were not privy, at this stage. Introduction I borrowed this book from a friend a year ago after she and the book group she belongs to strongly recommended it. It didn't really seem like my sort of book, but started it, only to give up after a few chapters. I just couldn't seem to bring myself to care about what happened to the main characters. Last week, after my friend asked for the book back, I tried reading it again, and this time, once I had got through the first few chapters, there was no looking back and I really enjoyed reading it.
