Elmer and Rose - David McKee
by karlsm93 - written on 09/07/09 (Very useful, 41 readings)
Rating:
of Elmer the elephant books, I had not actually read one until I picked up this story of Elmer and the Rose, retailing at £5.99 in Waterstones. David McKee is the author of these wonderful stories about Elmer, and the beautiful and colourful illustrations are attractive to children, even very young children. Elmer is a colouful patchwork elephant and the stories about him and his friends have been published since the late 80 s by Anderson Press. Elmer is a character that is well established in my Nursery units and Primary schools, although as I said, it is not a character that I have been very familiar with up until this story, and I will certainly be looking into ...

by belfin - written on 08/01/07 (Very useful, 148 readings)
Rating:
*The Author* David McKee is well known amongst parents because of the Elmer series, but a few of you probably aren t aware that he also created Mr Benn and King Rollo. I may have lost some of the younger readers of this now, but if so, just mention them to your parents and I m sure they will explain how big they were in the 70s. Elmer is a colourful patchwork elephant who lives in the jungle with his black and white cousin Wilbur and a lot of other grey elephants. *The Story* This Elmer story starts by introducing us to Rose who is a pink elephant. "A young friend of Elmer s named Rose Blushes from her head to her toes, Or sometimes instead From her toes to her ...

Rating:
In this story we have further adventures with Elmer the patchwork elephant who likes playing tricks and also meet his black and white checked cousin Wilbur. Wilbur is a ventriloquist so he plays just as many tricks as Elmer. Wilbur hides in a tree (don't ask how! Wilbur doesn't even tell Elmer)and throws his voice into all the other ...

lighthearted romance, mystery, good versys evil struggle
can lose yourself in the storyline and read past bedtime !

A very individual and abrupt manner of writing.
May not suit all.

Reasonable story
Goes on a bit
Balling The Jack - Frank Baldwin
Interesting story
Horrible main character, nasty undertones throughout

A fascinating adventure from begininng to end
Acosta is not always the most likeable of characters

Believable characters who get it wrong - like most of us
Tragic ending

Kept me entertained enough
Irritating main character, sometimes dull
