Premium Review Elmer and the Rose - a story about uniqueness! (492 words)
by karlsm93 - written on 09/07/09 (Very useful, 41 readings)
Rating:

of Elmer the elephant books, I had not actually read one until I picked up this story of Elmer and the Rose, retailing at £5.99 in Waterstones. David McKee is the author of these wonderful stories about Elmer, and the beautiful and colourful illustrations are attractive to children, even very young children. Elmer is a colouful patchwork elephant and the stories about him and his friends have been published since the late 80 s by Anderson Press. Elmer is a character that is well established in my Nursery units and Primary schools, although as I said, it is not a character that I have been very familiar with up until this story, and I will certainly be looking into ...

*The Author* David McKee is well known amongst parents because of the Elmer series, but a few of you probably aren t aware that he also created Mr Benn and King Rollo. I may have lost some of the younger readers of this now, but if so, just mention them to your parents and I m sure they will explain how big they were in the 70s. Elmer is a colourful patchwork elephant who lives in the jungle with his black and white cousin Wilbur and a lot of other grey elephants. *The Story* This Elmer story starts by introducing us to Rose who is a pink elephant. "A young friend of Elmer s named Rose Blushes from her head to her toes, Or sometimes instead From her toes to her ...
