I usually only take a week or so to read a book, and so it was with some surprise that it took me six weeks to get through 'The Corner'. The reason? The text is so dense, so rich in the writing, that sentences and paragraphs take time to get through, to digest and absorb, like nothing else I've ever read. The Corner is a unique book. It is a factual account of a year in the life of the tough inner city American drug culture that exists on LaFayette street. It follows the people and the happenings of the street, telling their true story in much the same way as a fictional novel would.
