... her wrong but they are all in for a very big shock! This book is very easy to read and the adult reader will be a pro at putting on funny voices by the end. The text is of average size but it's all in one place on the page so it's very easy for the eye to find. Some of the words depict the actions that are happening in the picture which encourage the reader to shout or say the word a little louder. The pictures are excellent and Ayto has done a brilliant job at getting the characters of the animals across to the reade...more

Premium Review The Cow That Laid an Egg - Andy Cutbill: Have you heard the news? Cows lay eggs! (457 words)
by - written on 09/06/09 (Very useful, 16 readings)
Rating:

This book is written by Andy Cutbill and illustrated by Russel Ayto. It was published in 2008 and retails at £5.99. The story tells of an unsatisfied cow, Marjorie, who doesn't feel special because she doesn't have a natural talent like the other cows. The chickens feel very sorry for her and 'hatch' a plan in the late of the night. When the hen awakes in the morning she is surprised to see a little egg underneath her. The papers are called and the cow becomes famous for laying an egg although the other cows just aren't convinced that it was her that laid it. They a wait for the day when the animal hatches out to prove her wrong but they are all in for a very ...  Read the complete review

This book is all about a cow on a farm that feels left out and unspecial. To boost its self esteem, the chickens trick it into thinking it has laid an egg. Soon the press are onto it, and the cow is a celebrity which annoys everyone else who know the trick. To prove its her egg, they wait for it to hatch, and find a chick that moos! The illustrations are full page which is nice to see, and they have made a real effort to make it visually alluring. Like the Charlie and Lola books, the pages are covered in bright patterns that have nothing to do with the story, which makes it exciting to look at. The language is simple, and the inclusion of lots of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Cow That Laid an Egg - Andy Cutbill: But cows can't lay eggs! Or can they? (566 words)
by - written on 10/04/09 (Very useful, 304 readings)
Rating:

Both my daughters recently were given a £1 book token from their school and nursery for World Book Day and so we took them off to our local book shop where they each carefully chose a book and put this token towards it. The Cow That Laid an Egg was my four year old daughter's choice. It is a very funny picture book written by Andy Cutbill and illustrated by Russell Ayto. I had not heard of either of these before but they have combined to produce a very entertaining book for young children. The story is all about a cow called Marjorie, who becomes a bit of a local celebrity when she manages to do something quite unusual. At the beginning of the book we meet ...  Read the complete review
