The Crimean War (1853 - 1856) fought between Russia and the allied forces of Britain, Turkey, France and Sardinia was the only major war involving the world's great powers between Waterloo and World War I. The war changed the face of Europe forever, sowing the seeds for a united Germany and a revolutionary Russia. A war of innovation, it was the first in which the telegraph, steamships and railways were utilised. The Crimean war is, of course, mostly remembered for two things; the 'Lady With The lamp' and the 'Charge of the Light Brigade'.
