Advantages: Once you get into it you can't stop reading

Disadvantages: Slow Starting

This is a story about underworld of gambling and politics. It starts with the mayor Penn Cage having secret meetings with an old school friend, Tim, who works on one of the gambling boats in Natchez. Tim has information about things happening on the boat he works. A day later Tim is brutally murdered, and his bosses demand an item Tim stole. With the help of old girlfriends, friends and family Penn sets on his journey to find this item which leads to all types of drama and suspense. There are many references to the Devil's Punchbowl but it is everywhere in this small town.

This book started off quite slow for me while getting to know the characters, but once the action started I really enjoyed this book. There are some horrible scenes of rape and dogfight which would not be advisable to younger adults. As the book went on you can really get the feel of the relationships and understand their pain like it was your own. I hope to see more of Penn, Caitlin and David Kelly in the future.

Summary: gambling + politics = devil puncbowl
