The Diamond Girls - Jacqueline Wilson ... dreamy Martine, glamorous Rochelle and tough Jude, could hardly be more different from each other but their Mum's tried to teach them the value of sticking together. Now, Mum's expecting yet another baby and she's convinced this one's a boy. Time to move to a bigger place, she insists, and the girls scarcely have time to protest before they find themselves at their new house. It's rough, dilapidated and filthy and before they've even unpacked the furniture, Mum goes into labour! By the time Mum comes home with the new baby, Jude's been in a fight, Rochelle's found a new boyfriend and Martine's stormed off. Only Dixie stays loyally by Mum's side - so only Dixie spots her secret - Another slice of realistic contemporary life, from the UK's most popular children's author.

I remember when this book was first released. My friends and I all bought our copies and read them at the same time, ploughing through Jacqueline Wilson's unique writing style and absorbing every word. It was a fantstic book, but what made it appeal to us so much? The Diamd Girls is about a girl called Dixie and her three sisters, who are all opposite. The girls, along with their pregnant mother, move house but when her mother goes into labour, the girls are left to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, the sisters go their own way, and Dixie is left to help their mother with the new baby. Can she cope, or will it be a disaster? This book can be ...  Read the complete review

‘You’re all my favourite Diamond girls,’ said Mum. ‘Little sparkling gems the lot of you…’ Dixie Diamond is the youngest of four sisters living with their mum on a rundown council estate. Mum is expecting again and this time she has foreseen in the stars that she is going to give her daughters a little brother. And she’s going to call him Sundance. All four sisters are very different; the eldest Martine at 16 basically takes on the mother role, as she is usually more sensible than her mother, except when it comes to her boyfriend. Next is Jude (14), who is the tomboy of the family, usually found fighting all the neighbourhood boys. Rochelle at 12 is ...  Read the complete review
