Advantages: realy good story some of it

Disadvantages: hate the carisman

The druid of shannara continues from Terry brook's book before this The scions of shannara which are both part of the heritage series There are two other books after this The Elf queen of shannara and finally first king of shannara.

For those who have not read the first the book in the series scions of shannara I will give you a quick recap.After using magic elfstones the magic has been passed down the bloodline.A couple of generation's later three family members of Olmsford Walker Boh,Par and Wren have been passed a quest a by a shade(dead person) named Allanon to do three quests.

Walker boh has been intrusted to bring back the druid castle named Paranor.
Par has the quest of finding The sword of shannara.
While Wren has been asked to bring back the elves.

Story begins

The King of the Silver river a guardian of nature for the for lands has senced that the three family members of Olmsford are in danger of dieing if he does not help them.He then from the qardens he protects uses his magic to form a child a girl to be named quickning who he gives some magic to protect her.Anything plant she touches that was dead is restored back to life.She also has the ablity to read other peoples minds as well as she is is beautiful that they would do anything for her.She starts off by going to rescue Walker boh who has been poisend by a magical snake that its bite turns anything to stone.She manages to recue him in time and removes some poisen but is unable to save his one arm that has ben turned to stone and it has to be chopped off.

The federation have sent an asasin after Quickning named Pe Ell who has a magic knife but she uses her charm not to kill her and rather help her the price of leah.They are joined by an anoying person named carisman who has an annoying of singing a ryhm when ever they are in danger.Quickining has been told a way to retrieve the black elfstone.It has been stolen by an evil being named
Uhl Belk who has the ablity to turn all of his enemies to stone.If that was not bad enough he has a son who can do the same.He is also guarded by a mutent bear and a creeper(a special kind of demon that is very fast and dangerous)

They are not completely helpless they have Morgan who has a magical sword.Pe ell who has his magic knife and who is fast as lightning as well as walker Boh and his magic.

Conclusion
There is a character that terry could of done without in this book and that is carisonman he adds nothing to the story and all he does is sing.Pe ell is an interesting addition to the team and I am sure anyone would be quiet grateful to have an assasin helping them not trying to kill them.Quickining although a very stange name to give a character especially one who is beautiful enough to have men pleading to do anything for her is actually my favourit character in the whole book.I like the idea of some one as beautiful as that being able almost mesmorising to anyone who goes near her.Overall a good book but made a bit to childish by carisman.Other than that would recommend this book to anyone but is important that if you like this book you read scion of shannar first so your not too lost and get the elf queen after that.

Summary: carisiman character was waste of time
