INTRODUCTION I was in my public library when I saw a prominently displayed book with a picture of a cheeky looking dog on the front. I looked inside and the print was a reasonable size for a standard paperback, and so would suit my tired eyes. These are the shallow reasons that I thought I would take a chance on this book, by an author who was new to me, and I got myself an entertaining read. I have since found out that the author is from a literary family and is an established author in her own right.
