Set in the English countryside in the 18th century, The Favoured Child is the second book inthe Wideacre Trilogy, which details the adventures of the Lacey Family. I feel that with it being a sequal, a brief explanation of the events leading up to this book is neccessary, although I am pointedly leaving out spoilers, as I think the first book 'Wideacre' is brilliant, and would not want to spoil it for anyone . If I had to select my favourite author it would come down to two; Philippa Gregory and Jodi Picoult. I've never read a bad book by either of these authors and each one I have read has lived up to my expectations. While browsing in my local library a month or so ago I came across Philippa Gregory's place on the shelves and picked up a book entitled "The Favoured Child." Now previously I've always read her historical books based largely on The Tudors as these have always fascinated me, but I have never tried her more fictional range... until quite recently while I was away relaxing on holiday and lying by the pool!
