A really fun book, that really shows up Roald's beautiful storytelling. It is completely unbelievable and unrealistic, but that is what makes it so charming and lovely to read. This is one of Dahl's shorter books, and also comes in another form with bigger pictures, so may be especially suitable for younger children, although children of all ages can read it, as it is funny on so many different levels. As always, the illustrations by Quentin Blake seem to fit the text so well. It sparks the imagination and excitement of children of all ages. A bite-sized book that can be read in a couple of sittings, the Giraffe & the Pelly & Me is Roald Dahl at his most anarchic, nonsensical & joyful. A small boy hangs longingly round an abandoned sweet shop, only to find it being renovated by a group of singing friends: a giraffe, a pelican & a monkey.
