Superb Second book in the Millenium Series by Steig Larsson (The Girl Who Played with Fire - Stieg Larsson)
Member Name: washingtonsue
Advantages: Sequential without actually being a Sequel to Thr Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Disadvantages: none The second book in a series of three, the first being The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the third, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, The Girl Who Played with Fire lives up to all expectations one might have after reading the first. The second book is sequential with actually being a sequel; one could read it without having first read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. However I would highly recommend you read them in order. The book begins about 6 months from the close of the first and we catch up with Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. As with the first book the plot and pace of the book continue to build at a steady pace. Stieg Larsson was a Swedish writer and journalist who was outspoken on themes of right wing politics and the society they breed and this is evident in his indictment of the sensational and often quite inaccurate type of journalism one gets from tabloid newspapers and the ineptitude of the police force. An excellent book, well written and believable with solid characters and thought provoking themes and a nail biting close. The third book in the series is due to go on sale in England in January 2010 and has, like the first two, been translated into English by Reg Keeland who does a fantastic job. Summary: Excellent book |
