Advantages: The first few chapter star well...

Disadvantages: ... then it all goes downhill.

I was drawn to this book in Waterstones one day, it looked like a fun chick-lit book, the cover was very appealing and it was a book about books - i thought this was just what I wanted, an amusing lighthearted novel.

It starts off well, it is amusing, Isabel seems sweet and likable; someone who just is a bit ditzy and gets into a bit of trouble after she a mistake costs her a job.

The plot then consists of Isabel being employed by a writer as a special assistant who will mentor her through writing a book. A mix-up ensues where she has a publishing deal but doesn't actually write even the first page. This is when it gets irritating; Isabel thinks that everything she wants will just fall into her lap without working at all or any attempt to do anything but daydream and shop. She becomes egotistical rather then sweet and her lovable ditiziness just becomes plain lazy. You end up not caring a bit if things turn out well for her (and actually just secretly hope things don't!)

Holly McQueen made a huge mistake; women need to like and identify with the female protoganist or we just end up not caring. Women these days work for a living and need the same respect as men, this just says 'flutter our eyelashes' at the right people and you will get what you want!

Summary: Read Sophie Kinsella instead
