Even the opening line leaves you hooked: "I was sitting in a taxi, wondering if I had overdressed for the evening, when I looked out the window and saw Mom rooting through a dumpster." The glass castle is an extremely powerful and tragically honest account of Jeanette Walls' childhood. Raised by an alcoholic father and an eccentric, uninterested mother, this book tells of the struggles which Jeanette and her siblings had to face throughout their childhood: such as poverty and neglect and how they managed to overcome these obstacles. I used to drink in books constantly but over the years I've found it difficult to concentrate and find a book engaging enough to keep my interest. I came across The Glass Castle in the library partially because of the intriguing title and because it would give me a break from my usual thriller genre. After reading it (didn't take me long!) I came on here to review, and was quite surprised to find it wasn't listed.
