This is another educational but very amusing book by Mick Inkpen. This book is about a pet shop which has a massive sale on, this is a pop up book with flaps for you to open. There is a rat under the first flap shouting buy me i am only 1 pence in the hope that someone will buy him, the boy isnt interested and as he wanders around the shop looking at all the other animals for sale the rat follows him around trying to talk him out of buying any of the others. This book is very funny, i found the bit where the rat describes a skink as a sausage on legs particularly funny. This book helps to learn counting, basic addition and ... Read the complete review

It is no surprise that Mick Inkpen is one of the top selling picture book artists and writers. He has an enviable talent in this area and has sold millions worldwide. He is perhaps best known for his stories about Kipper, but don't overlook the Wibbly Pig series of books as these are in my opinion even more fantastic than Kipper. - The Great Pet Sale - This is perhaps one of the less well-known Inkpen books as it doesn't feature his more popular characters, Kipper and Wibbly Pig. I happened upon this book quite by chance and instantly got my mits on it as a basis for teaching 'money' at Key Stage 1. It is all about a ... Read the complete review

I have to say that this is one of my favourite children's' books of the moment. It's about a boy visiting a pet shop which is closing down. The shop has pets at reduced prices, which the boy looks around. As he is looking around a little rat tries to convince him to buy him, and in the end the boy buys everything in the whole shop! This really is a nice book, although it's so simple that it's not that easy to put your finger on why is it so good. To begin with, the pics are basic and simple, with white backgrounds and very basic pics on the pages. The animals are recognizable and adequate but certainly not particularly special. The story is ... Read the complete review

Any children's book by Mick Inkpen, of Kipper fame, is likely to be a delight, and The Great Pet Sale is no exception. The cover shows a koala bear and an anteater looking very forlorn, but don't miss the cheeky little rat standing on one leg in the bottom right-hand corner. We learn at the start of the story that everything in the pet shop is a bargain, even a little rat with half his whiskers missing, whose price tag is a mere 1p. A little boy with large spectacles is visiting the shop to see what he might buy as a pet, but the rat tries to waylay him and insist on being the best bet. Turning the page, we find the prices gradually increasing: a tiny terrapin ... Read the complete review

Mick Inkpen is the creator or Kipper the Dog and he is the clever man who has written this book. It's about a little boy who goes into a pet shop and whilst he is exploring every animal, a little rat is trying to convince him to leave the shop with him. There are lots of interesting pets to choose from but who will the little boy leave with when it comes to the crunch? I absolutely love this book! Firstly the illustrations are really good and are done in the same water colours as Kipper the Dog. There isn't many drawings on the page besides the animals and the little boy and the background is left white. The book has lots of flaps to lift and peer ... Read the complete review
