The Gruffalo's Child - Julia Donaldson

Premium Review Here comes the Gruffalso Child! (1100 words)

What did |I find? A totally endearing book, in which the gruffalo s child continues the relationship with the mouse. THE STORY As with most (if not all) Julia Donaldson books, this is all rhyming, and so is very easy for young children to follow and remember, so increasing their enjoyment of the story...they LOVE it when they can repeat some of the text. It starts with the gruffalo and his child (boy/girl, not sure!) sitting in their little cave, and gruffalo tells his child that "no gruffalo should set foot in the deep dark wood" The little gruffalo is naturally curious and asks why. The story starts with Charlie Cook sitting on a sofa reading a book. The text is rhyming, and has a steady beat to it that makes my kids sometimes sing it like a song. Each double page spread is about a particular book, the book is described as ...

Charlie Cook who curled up in a cosy chair and read his favourite book..." ... and so begins an engaging literary adventure! Most people get to know about Julia Donaldson through her wonderful book "The Gruffalo", but I confess although I had heard much about that book I had never bought it for my daughter. I first came across "Charlie Cook" at a church fair hidden away on the book stall. I was initially attracted by the bright and humerous illustrations and as I had heard good things about Julia Donaldson s stories and this book, in mint condition was on sale for a criminally nominal price I snapped it up. Looking for something to ...
