The Story:
The Gruffalo is a children's story book following a Mouse who "took a stroll in the deep dark woods". During his stroll he meets an Owl, a Fox and a Snake and all invite him to lunch, tea or a feast with the intention of eating him. The Mouse has to think on his feet and give the other animals an excuse, one that will change their mind about eating him. He comes up with the Gruffalo, to each animal he describes the Gruffalo in different ways and explains that they are his favourite food. The other animals get scared and run off leaving Mouse to continue on his stroll further in to the woods. The Mouse then meets a real Gruffalo whose favourite food is also Mouse! Thinking on his feet again our friend Mouse tells the Gruffalo he is the "Scariest Creature in this Wood" and proves it by leading him back to Fox, Owl and Snake who run at the sight of the Gruffalo.
Great Reading?
My son loves having this book read to him before he goes to bed, the story is easy to grasp and because it rhymes children will be able to memorise the word easily. The pictures are great and story appropriate, perfect for little imaginations. It can be a little bit scary, my son had 1 Gruffalo nightmare to date, not too bad considering he has had the book read to him everyday for nearly a year now! It's a great present to buy for a child and can be kept forever. The illustration on the cover is eye catching and the covers themselves are easy to wipe clean. Little hands can rip the pages. The characters and story line are easy for children to relate to andit is a great way to encourage children to think on their feet like the Mouse.
An all time children's classic. I would definitely recommend buying for children who love to have stories read to them!
