A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood. A fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good. What an excellent book i recommend this book without a doubt to anyone with young children, my little one is 3 years old and loves the book so much we have to read it almost every night for his bedtime story its very rare he chooses anything else, as he as heard the story so many times he knows it word for word and sits reading it to me .......... he even turns the pages at the right times. Basically in the gruffalo a mouse goes for a stroll and meets a fox, an owl and a snake who all want to trick the mouse so they can eat him but the mouse is too smart and makes up a creature called a gruffalo to scare them off, little does he know this creature actually exists so when he bumps into the gruffalo 'oh help, oh no, its a gruffalo' the poor mouse as more troubles to come as the gruffalo wants to eat the mouse aswell 'my favourite food! the gruffalo said. you'll taste good on a slice of bread.' the mouse then goes on to decieve the gruffalo and tells him he is the scariest creature in the wood and that everyone is afraid of him. The gruffalo decides to humour the mouse and follows him back through the wood but then they see the snake, the owl and the fox who dont hang about for long which makes the gruffalo believe the mouse must be scary so when the mouse turn it all around ' now my tummys beginning to rumble, my favourite food is gruffalo crumble' and the gruffalo takes off now scared of the mouse and the story ends with 'all was quiet in the deep dark wood. The mouse found a nut and the nut was good. This is truly an excellent book, i still love it and i have read it most nights for the past 4-5mnths

Summary: Probably the best kids book i have come across so far

This book is ten years old this week I believe and is excellent!

I wonder if you could identify what makes it such a good book for children - is it the rhyme/language, illustrations, story or combination of all? More opinion would make this more useful to anyone wondering whether to buy this book.

We love it too:)
