Advantages: in depth look into a hardmans life

Disadvantages: not alot

The Guv'nor is a book about the life of eastend hard man Lenny McLean, this book, in my opinion is absolutely brilliant, and goes in depth into some of the worst times in Lenny's life but also shows that even the hardest of men can have a heart and wont stand for "wrong ens". I have read many books about various hardmen, like carl merritt, Bartley Gorman and Roy 'Pretty Boy' shaw just to name a few and can say that is is in the top 3 of this genre of book. He doesnt try to give it the big "I AM" the way i found Pretty Boy's book to be and there are alot of good monents in this book but at the same time a lot of sad ones too, he was known as "the hardest man in britain" and most probably was, takin on a beating most men put in front of him, whether its in the ring, on the street or in a bar or club. after reading this book you will feel as though you know this man personally! Lenny also appeared in the film Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, during the filming he became ill and passed away shortly before the film as released. I would recommend this superb book to most people.

Summary: you wont put this down until its finished

Thanks for your comment, however, i cant see how you can compare Lenny McLean and Howard Marks (if its the same Howard Marks im thinking about) one was an eastend hardman, boxer/bare knuckle fighter, bouncer and the other is a drug trafficker?! okay true crime maybe but two totally different subjects. I may be wrong and there may be another Howard Marks out there?

I read that Howard Marks book and decided no more true crime for me. These guys are thugs so why give them publicity on thier version of events.
