Advantages: Really funny, kids will get a kick from reading it to themselves

Disadvantages: They will tell you the same jokes, over and over again

My seven-year-old adores this book. We bought it for him when he was six, and he has spent hours going through it, and then telling us all the jokes.

The jokes inside are sometimes slightly cheeky, but never actually rude or inappropriate or problematic. They're obviously carefully selected and thought through (as I'd expect from Ahlberg!).

Of course, the down side is, you will be told the same jokes over and over again, but if repetition bugs you, how on earth have you survived this long as a parent!?!

Jokes are categorised as being for parents, siblings, teachers, or whatever. Some of them don't entirely make sense now - the book is from 1982, after all, but has still been immensely popular with my boy. It comes as a small cheap paperback, so is good value for money, and easily portable, too. I'm pretty sure I paid list price for it, but it was wroth every penny!

He particularly enjoys the knock-knock jokes in here.

I think this book is good for kids of five years and older - before that they don't really understand jokes. Many of the jokes are based on puns, anyway, which little kids just don't get.

Summary: Very funny, very enjoyable.
