In 1979, the publishers Grosset & Dunlap, lost the rights to continue publication of the Hardy Boys books. I am unaware of the reasons, but the publication rights switched to Simon & Schuster, who continued this for a number of books. As a result, this, the 59th Hardy Boys book, amy often be referred to as Number 1, as it is the first of S&S' Hardys publications. The Hardy Boys are Frank and Joe Hardy, sons of supersleuth Fenton hardy, a detective by profession.
