This 29th volume of the Hardy Boys series is a nice distraction from the usual cases investigated in the present tense. The name Franklin W Dixon is the pen name used by the ghost writers of the Hardy Boys books throughout their many volumes, although Leslie McFarlane used this pen name for 20 or so books before hanging up and passing over the mantle of the Hardys writer to other ghost writers. The Secret of the Lost Tunnel sees an attempt by the next ghost writer to give us something different with the brother Frank and Joe Hardy, sons of famous sleuth and private detective Fenton Hardy, upon whom a plethora of mysteries always seems to fall.
