For Leslie McFarlane's last entry as Franklin W Dixon, the Hardy Boys Frank and Joe are assigned to help their father in a mystery that seems to deepen as it goes on. Not only are they confused by a man who appears to have been dead for 5 years, but they must also follow strange directions to find a secret panel, and all this in order to stop a series of high-level thefts! The story deepens in its intricacy, and like an Agatha Christie novel, at the end you want to go 'Aaah!' as the light dawns and everything becomes clear.
