Frank & Joe Hardy are the teenage sons of famous private detective Fenton Hardy & his wife Laura. Together, (& sometimes from help with family & friends) they investigate all sorts of crimes & strange occurences.... The Twisted Claw was published in the US in 1939 & was the eighteenth in the series. It was revised in 1968 with an almost completely new story. The book first appeared in the UK in 1972 & was numbered 11 when it was published by Armada. This review is for the Armada edition. In one of the scariest Hardy Boys books as I found them, Frank and Joe find themselves investigating pirates and missing artefacts in another mysterious adventure. Smuggling is often at the heart of their adventures and the same is of this one, as they must find out who is stealing pirate treasure and smuggling it away. I found this book surprisingly scary in places, which is rare for a book aimed at such a young audience. The Twisted Claw is the 18th Hardy Boys book.
